Karauli is a City of God of Rajasthan, located 160 kms from Jaipur. Former called Kalyanpuri, after the local god Kalyanji, Karauli was established in 1348 AD. Karauli was powerfully fortified by its rulers. The city is surrounded by a wall of red sandstone strengthened by bastions at several places. The tangential wall, now dilapidated at various places, has 6 gates and 11 posterns. As per the legend, the ruling family of Karauli, recognised as the head of the Yadhuvanshi Rajputs, is the descendant of Lord Krishna.
Located 23 kms from Kaila Devi, Karauli was a formerly princely state in eastern Rajasthan. Karauli is well-known for its pale red-stone. Karauli has several noted places of visit like temples of Kaila Devi and Madan Mohanji and other historic monuments. The annual fair at the Kaila Devi temple is quite well-liked.

Constructed as a royal house, in the year 1938 by Maharaja Ganesh Pal Deo Bahadur, the then ruler of Karauli is the Bhanwar Vilas Palace.The architecture is of colonial technique and the insides are provided with art-de-decor period furniture.
Temples of Madan Mohan ji, and Kalyan ji
The city is the home of Shri Madan Mohanji, the deity of Lord Krishna, adoration of his followers from Rajasthan and other states. The ancient temples of Madan Mohanji beautifully built and Kalyanji are crowded by thousands of devotees every year.
Fair and Festivals
Kaila Devi Fair
The annual fair at the Kaila Devi temple is very well-liked, taking place during the dark half of "Chaitra" and lasts two weeks. The fold of the fair is over one lakh. There is a nearby lake with navigation facilities.
Karauli Attractions
Today Karauli, known for its red sandstone pale, also known as a sacred place. There are some ancient monuments can be seen here, and explore the area hiking and game sanctuary. There are excellent opportunities for jeep safaris and boating too. Make it a point to visit the local bazaar where you get good handicraft, especially Karauli color bracelets.
