Chittorgarh Fort

Chittorgarh Fort is the greatest fort in India and the most luxurious in the state of Rajasthan.

Chittorgarh is located in the southern state of Rajasthan in northwestern India. It is located on a hillside near the river Gambheri. That is 112 km from Udaipur and 182 km from Ajmer. The climate of Chittorgarh is arid. Summers are very hot (April-June) and winters are cold (October-February). Experiencing a shortage of rainfall between June and August.

Chittorgarh, also called Chittaur, from 7 until 16 century was the capital of Mewar under the Rajputs. Chittaur evokes memories of great heroism and sacrifice of Rajput men and women in intermittent battles that had to fight the invaders and Northwest Delhi. Chittaur witnessed both the ravages of war and the triumph of the spirit.

Allaudin Khilji that Padmini Queen Chittaur coveted, invaded the city in 1303 AD Queen Padmini and the women of the court were sacrificed on a pyre of fire rather than submit to anyone. This supreme sacrifice has been called 'Jauhar and embodies the spirit of fire of the day Rajputs. The city is dotted with monuments and battlements as evidence of blood and gore that crossed in medieval times.

Fort Chittaur is the best known fort in Rajasthan. Its origins date back to the Pandavas of Mahabharata. It is said that Bhima, one of the Pandava brothers, built the fortress. Standing at 180 meters hill, the fort has an area of 700 acres. Inside the Temple Shyam Meera and Khumbo. Is associated with Meera, a mystical poet dedicated to Lord Krishna bhajans whose life and have become part of folklore and literary traditions of the region and various parts of India.

Chittorgarh (Chittaurgarh) is the epitome of Rajput pride, romance and spirit. It reflects with history of heroism and sacrifice, which is evident as it echoes with the tales sung by the Bards of Rajasthan. The main reason for visiting Chittorgarh is its strong massive hill, which is a representation of culture and values of Rajput.

The fort of Chittor is considered one of the country's leading heavy and is in fact the "pride of Rajasthan state." The strength is formidable at the top of a hill 180 meters high, covering a huge area of 700 hectares and is a standing sentinel to the courage and valor of Chittorgarh. It was believed that the fortress was built by the Mauryans in the seventh century and strucres were added to the successive rulers of Mewar.

The long road from a mile serpentine strength is quite steep and exhastive. The fort is approached through seven huge gateways or 'pols', which are kept by the clock tower and massive iron spiked doors

Water Fort :

Chittorgarh safe water is also called as strong. The fortress there were 84 bodies of water, of which only about 22 exist today. These talabs Include (ponds), kunds (wells) and Baori (step wells). All talabs has a natural basin. The Baori kunds and are below the talabs, so that even the filtration of the latter is not lost.

Travel Information

Chittorgarh not have its own airport. Chittorgarh railway station is situated on the western bank of the river Gambheri. It has rail links with Ahmedabad, Ajmer, Udaipur, Jaipur, Kota and Delhi. The main bus stand is also located on the western bank of the river Gambheri. There are good bus service to Ajmer, Bundi, Kota and Udaipur from Chittorgarh.
