Lakes of Rajasthan

Lake is a body of fresh water surrounded by land. Rajasthan has many scenic lakes and natural lakes, man used to store water for drinking and for irrigation. There are many beautiful and picturesque lakes of Rajasthan. Most of them are artificial and serve as drinking water supply of civilization and was used as a reservoir to conserve rainwater. While some of the lakes are a gift of nature to Rajasthan, others have been carved into the surface of the earth by human efforts.

Lake Pichola

This is perhaps the most important and most beautiful lake in Rajasthan. Located in Lake City of Rajasthan, Udaipur, Lake Pichola reveals a virginal beauty of its audience. Two of the major attractions in Udaipur are located in and around the lake. The lake is surrounded by the magnificent palace complex of the city, while the beautiful Lake Palace occupies an island in the lake. Tourists can have the pleasure of enjoying a boat ride on Lake Pichola in the early morning or evening when the sun rises and extends a fascinating charm in the lake and its surroundings. The 2 ¼ miles long and 1 ¼ mile wide, the lake began in the 14th century, however, was completed in the 16th century by Maharana Udai Singh.

Fateh Sagar Lake

This is the second largest lake of the three lakes in the city of Udaipur. Excavated in 1678 by Maharana Jai Singh, the lake was destroyed by floods. Later, it was rebuilt by Maharana Fateh Singh. The lake is linked to the Pichola Lake on the south by a channel through Lake Sagar and Swaroop Sagar Lake position. Although the lake was originally conceived for the purpose of irrigation, today marks the need for drinking water too. Tourists can enjoy a boat trip on lake with views of towering mountains on three sides. The lake has three major islands occupied by a public park, a solar observatory and a power jet.

Rajasmand Lake

Not far from Udaipur, on the way to Kumbhalgarh lies a place named Rajasmand. The place is known for its picturesque lake Rajasmand which was built by Rana Raj Singh in 1660 AD. On either side of the lake, beautiful and charming toranas chattris improve in general. A walk along the lake with the sunset in the background is a real treat for tourists. Black Dollars, are Chinkara Neelgais and fauna of the region and can often be seen during the trip. The smiling people of Bishnoi villages is a pleasure to watch.

Bishnois are known for their passion for conservation of plant and animal life alike. The quiet serenity and calm of the place attracts not only tourists but also a variety of migratory bird feathers are wonderful to watch. The palace elegant art-deco style of Maharaja Umaid Singh summer, the Sardar Samand Lake Resort, which once served as a hunting lodge on the loyalty of Jodhpur, stands proudly on its shores. The extensive grounds and gardens of the resort offers enchanting walks and stunning views of the great sparkling waters of the lake.

Ana Sagar Lake

Another important gap created by man's efforts in Rajasthan. The lake is surrounded by beautiful parks and marble pavilions. Right in the middle of the lake is an island can be reached by a motorboat. The trip, of course, is as enjoyable as a stroll on the beautiful shore.

Gadsisar Lake

Jaisalmer Gadsisar Lake is not just a place worth seeing, but it is also the only source of water supply in the city. It was built as a reservoir to conserve rainwater in 1156. Garsisingh Maharwal was rebuilt in 1367 and, therefore, the lake was named after him. There is an interesting legend attached to the place.

A courtesan called Tilon proposed to the king who wanted to build an arched gateway here for the beautification of the place. However, the rule does not dare to give in to the idea because it would have to pass under the bridge built by a prostitute when you visit the tank, which he refused flatly. Tilon was injured, but cunning as he was, was determined to do so.

She waited patiently for the right time and when the king was of any account, rose a palace built arch and added a small temple of Lord Satyanarayan on top so the king could no serious consternation down. This site has a name and is known as Ki Pol Tilon and pride is intact to this day. There are a number of small temples and cenotaphs that have emerged along the shores of the lake over time and is an ideal place to see some of the most beautiful birds.

Pushkar Lake

Legends say the Pushkar Lake was made by Lord Brahma through the merger of the waters of the four holy places of Hindus in India - Badrinath, Jagannath, Rameshwaram and Dwarka. The lake is surrounded by 52 ghats and there is a chattris floating in the middle. The Pushkar Lake is worth visiting for the last night of the well-known Pushkar Fair, when thousands of oil lamps are bright in the water.

Sambhar Lake

Unlike the freshwater lakes of Rajasthan, this is a saltwater lake in the state of Rajasthan. Infact, this is the largest saline lake water throughout India and an important source of salt production in India. The lake extends a length of 22.5 km and its width varies from 3 to 11 km. The lake is fed by several freshwater streams.

Pachprada Lake

This is yet another salt water lake in the district of Barmer. The lake produces superiority salt.

Kailana Lake

Eleven kms from Jaisalmer, Lake Kailana Lake is very gorgeous with its placid waters and beautiful surroundings. A non-natural lake, it serves as a tranquil picnic spot with its wonderful sunsets and rare tranquility and passivity.
