Sikar Tourism Guide

Sikar is one of the three districts that are under Shekhawati, the land of the murals. The district belonged to the Thakurs Shekhawat (caciques), descendants of entrepreneurs Shekha Rao, who founded the principality in a century when 15th century.

Following slumps, Sikar, the biggest thikana (vassal state) under the Jaipur state, was taken over by the Rajput Daulat Singh Shekhawat in 1687AD. The man got some good plans for the accumulation of capital, which were later accomplished by his son, Sheo Singh. Sheo began in earnest on a building spree in 1724AD and changed the whole face of the city.

This is generally considered the foundation day of Sikar, although some of the place existed long before. Sheo Singh built the palace, fortress and city walls first. In this he was supported by Sardul Singh Shekhawat Rajput another, which expelled the Mughal Nawab (ruler) of Jhunjhunu and took his place.

After few time, and Sheo Sardul gathered and drove the nawab of Fatehpur, Sardar Khan. A later ruler of Sikar, Devi Singh, the city further expanded through the construction of the fort of Deogarh (8 km southeast of the city) in the 1780's. and Sikar was on his way to aura, becoming one of the major cities of the Art Gallery of Rajasthan Outdoor, called Shekhawati.
